Arizona
in black and white
Arizona's desert is renowned for its vibrant tapestry of colors—the fiery reds of monumental cliffs, the golden hues of endless sand dunes, and the deep greens of resilient cacti against a backdrop of azure skies. Yet, strip away the spectrum, and Arizona unveils a timeless beauty in black and white. The stark contrast of stark canyon walls, the intricate textures of weathered rock formations, and the play of light and shadow across the desert floor still evoke a breathtaking panorama. In monochrome, Arizona's natural wonders prove that its allure transcends color, captivating the soul with its enduring elegance and raw, unfiltered charm.
Living in Arizona, I find myself surrounded by the beauty of the desert. We can easily become numb to the beauty around us when we see it every day. So I decided to make the conscious effort to stop and admire the sights whenever I could. I also decided it would be an absolute shame not to see all the iconic places in Arizona.
Part landscape, part street photography, Arizona in Black and White is my way of sharing the state I live in with a timeless twist. Removing what some would argue as the most significant piece of what makes the desert so iconic, the color. It’s an ongoing project that is off to a slow start, but I’m hopeful that I’m not the only one that finds images of Arizona just as striking, even without color.
